These Artifacts use printmaking and collage to explore contemporary experiences within Internet Culture. Starting with digital compositions of personal photos alongside memes, video stills, and screenshots, I simulate a merging of the online and offline worlds. The final works, created with traditional art materials, exist as physical “time capsules” in an effort to subvert the disposable nature of the fleeting online content I reference.
Obscuring imagery behind veils of distortion and pattern, a distance is created between the viewer and the events depicted. Politically charged imagery overlaps with meme formats and absurdist humor in an effort to recreate the numbing experience of viewing online content via recommendation algorithms
